Anil Awachat (Devanagari: अनिल अवचट) (born 1944) is a doctor, a social activist and Marathi writer from Maharashtra, India.
Awachat was born in 1944 in the town of Otur in Pune District. He completed Pre-Degree education from Fergusson College and later received his medical degree from B. J. Medical College in Pune in 1968.
Awachat and his psychiatrist wife Sunanda founded a deaddiction center in Pune,
called Muktangan (मुक्तांगण), which was the first of its kind in India at that time.[1] The center has been a highly successful operation.
Awachat has written extensively on social issues in India and through his writings sought justice for the helpless segment of the society. He has been an editor of Sadhana (साधना) magazine.

Awachat's books were declared "The Best Book of the Year" by the Government of Maharashtra for three consecutive years.
In 2007, Awachat received the Ramshastri Prabhune Pratishthan (रामशास्त्री प्रभुणे प्रतिष्ठान) Social Justice Award.

Anil Awachat
Dr. Anil Awachat is a prominent Marathi author and social activist based in Pune. He runs de-addiction center called Muktangan in Pune and is associated with several other social issues. He is also interested in several hobbies including Origami, Flute, Cooking, sculpture and so on. Despite having a medical degree, he never practiced as a doctor and prefers not to use “Dr.” with his name in his writings or otherwise. His wife Sunanda was a well-known psychiatrist and also the strong lady believing in his vision and supporting him in his activities – and founder of Muktangan. Anil Awachat often acknowledges her contribution and mentions her as pillar of strength always standing by him. He has two daughters – Mukta Puntambekar and Yashoda Wakankar and also several other adapted children for them he always remains their “baba”.

पुस्तक रसग्रहण : माझी चित्तरकथा (ऋजुता घाटे)
माझी चित्तरकथा – अनिल अवचट
वाचकांच्या मनात अनेक प्रश्न निर्माण करणारी, विचार करायला लावणारी, अस्वस्थ व्हायला लावणारी; सामाजिक प्रश्नांवरील अनेक अभ्यासपूर्ण पुस्तकं अनिल अवचट यांनी लिहिलेली आहेत. एक संवेदनशील मन असलेला माणूस हे सर्व लोकांपुढे यावं, त्यांनाही तळागाळातील माणसांचं जगणं कळावं यासाठी हे लेखन करतो आणि पुस्तकांच्या रुपात ते वाचकांसमोर ठेवतो; हे प्रश्न जाणून घेणारा त्याबद्दल लिहिणारा हा लेखक मन शांत कसं ठेवत असेल बरं?
या प्रश्नाचे उत्तर अनिल अवचट यांच्या ‘माझी चित्तरकथा’ या समकालीन प्रकाशनाने काढलेल्या पुस्तकात मिळेल. अनिल अवचट यांच्या शब्दात सांगायचं झालं तर ते म्हणतात, आनंदासाठी चित्रं काढायचा विरंगुळा शोधलेला मी माणूस आहे. या पुस्तकातील चित्रं पाहून तुमच्यातली चित्रं काढायची उर्मी जागी झाली आणि तुम्हीही चित्रं काढू लागलात तर बहार येईल.
सामाजिक प्रश्नांवर लिहिणार्या अनिल अवचट या वल्ली माणसाला ओरिगामी, स्वयंपाक, गायन, बासरीवादन, दोर्याचे आणि नाण्यांचे खेळ, लाकडातून शिल्प तयार करणे, चित्रं काढणे असे अनेक छंद आहेत. त्या सर्वांबद्दल ‘छंदांविषयी’ या पुस्तकामधे त्यांनी पुर्वी लिहिलेलं आहे. पण ‘माझी चित्तरकथा’ या पुस्तकात अनिल अवचट यांच्या चित्रांचा प्रवास कसा झाला याबद्दल त्यांनी सांगितले आहे.
लहानपणी सगळ्यांना चित्रं काढायची आवड असते. पण मोठं झालं की सगळेच ही आवड पुढे चालू ठेवतात असं नाही. पण अनिल अवचट यांनी ही आवड पुढे जोपासली. मोर, हत्ती, दगड, डोंगर, झाडं, माणसं यांची भरपूर चित्रं काढली. स्केचपेन, बाॅल पाॅइंट पेन, मार्कर्स, ‘एच’, ‘बी’चे सुईसारखे शिसं असणार्या क्लच पेन्सिल्स… ऑइल पेस्टल, साॅफ्ट ड्राय पेस्टल अशी अनेक माध्यमं वापरुन सातत्याने प्रयोग करत मनापासून आनंद घेत चित्रं काढली.
पुस्तकाच्या मुखपृष्ठावरील मोर लक्ष वेधून घेतो. त्याचा पिसारा फुललाय की कुण्या झाडाची पानं पसरलीत ही? अशीच सहज सोप्या रेषेतून उमटलेली भरपूर चित्रं या पुस्तकात आहेत. एकमेकांशी गप्पा मारणारी एकमेकांना बिलगून बसलेली मायाळू माणसं, आदिमानवाच्या गुहेतील चित्रांची आठवण होईल अशी नाजूक रेषांतील माणसं , पाना फुलांसारखीच एकमेकांत गुंतून गेलेली युगुलचित्रं … जाड मार्करच्या रेषांनी वेगवेगळे भाव दाखवणारे चेहरे, शिल्प आहेत असा भास होणारे एकमेकांना जोडलेले बारिक टोकाच्या पेनने शेडिंग केलेले चेहरे. डोंगरातून फिरणारे हत्ती, पानांच्या पसार्याचाच पिसारा झालेले मोर… आणि खूप झाडं…. आभाळ व्यापून टाकलेली, घनदाट जंगलातील, गार गार सावली देणारी झाडं.. धुक्यात हरवलेली काहीशी गूढ वाटणारी क्लच पेन्सिलने शेडिंग केलेली झाडं… डोंगर. .. म्हातारबाबा … ऑइल पेस्टलमधे केलेली काहीशी अमुर्त वाटणारी मनाला नवी उमेद देणारी चित्रं… अनेक चित्रं या पुस्तकात आहेत.
गुळगुळीत आर्ट पेपरवरील रंगीत छपाई असल्याने ही सर्व चित्रं प्रत्यक्ष जशी असतील तशीच पाहाण्याचा आनंद मिळतो. पृष्ठांचा फिकट रंग आणि त्यावर फिकट रंगात केलेला चित्ररेषांचाच वापर यामुळे चित्रांच्या आणि मजकुराच्या मांडणीलाही उठाव आला आहे. पुस्तकाचं स्वरुप देखणं झालं आहे.
अनिल अवचट यांनी त्यांच्या चित्रांचं कधी मोठ्या गॅलरीत प्रदर्शन भरवलं नाही. हे पुस्तक म्हणजे या सुंदर चित्रांच्या प्रदर्शनाचं एक छोटसं दालनच आहे. जिथे अनिल अवचट यांची सर्व चित्रं एकत्र पाहण्याचा आनंद तर मिळतोच, शिवाय या ‘वल्ली’ माणसानं त्या चित्रांसारख्याच सहज सोप्या शब्दांत गप्पा मारता मारता सांगितलेल्या काही गहन गोष्टीही मनाला भावतात.
अनिल अवचट यांच्या रेषा ते वळवतील तशा वळतात की रेषाच्या मनाप्रमाणे अनिल अवचट यांच्याकडून चित्र उमटत जातं? ही सर्व चित्रं निसर्गाच्या जवळची…. माणसामाणसांतल्या आदीम निरागस नात्याची …. स्वतःच्या आनंदासाठी काढलेली दुसर्यांना आनंद आणि चित्रं काढण्याची उर्मी देणारी अशी ही चित्रं. या चित्रांतून सहजता जाणवते , या चित्रांशी जवळीक निर्माण होते. आणि ती चित्रं अनिल अवचट यांची न राहता आपली सर्वांची होऊन जातात!

अनुभव मधील लेख –
बाबाचा अनुभव मधील एक अतिशय सुंदर लेख –
तरीही एक प्रश्न आहेच. खरोखर लेखनाचा समाजजीवनावर परिणाम होतो का? ‘माणसं’मधल्या लेखांपैकी हमाल, तंबाखू कामगार यांच्यावर परिणाम झालेला दिसतो. पण तो नुसत्या लेखाचा झाला असता का? पुण्यात बाबा आढावांची, निपाणीत सुभाष जोशींची संघटना होती, चळवळ होती म्हणून त्यांनी लेखांचा उपयोग करून चळवळ पुढे नेली. पण ही चळवळ नसती तर? मग जिथे चळवळ नसते तिथे लेखनाचं काय प्रयोजन? लिहिणार्याने आपल्या मर्यादा आणि ताकद लक्षात घ्यायला हवी. लेखन हे दृष्टी देण्याचं काम करतं. काही वेळा प्रत्यक्ष उपयोग दिसत नसला तरी बीजं पेरली जात असतात. ती विखरून पडतात. कुठे तरी रुजतात. नाही तरी वनस्पती एवढ्या बिया जमिनीवर टाकतात, त्यातल्या किती थोड्या रुजतात! बाकीच्या मरतात. पण त्या वाया जातात का? नाही. जमिनीला त्या वेगळ्या प्रकारे समृद्ध करतातच की!

अनिल अवचट यांना राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार
व्यसनमुक्ती क्षेत्रातील कार्याबद्दल डॉ. अनिल अवचट यांना २६ जून २०१३ रोजी राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार राष्ट्रपती प्रणव मुखर्जी यांच्या हस्ते दिल्लीत प्रदान करण्यात आला. व्यक्तिगत कार्याबद्दल हा पुरस्कार केंद्र सरकारच्या सामाजिक न्याय आणि सबलीकरण मंत्रालयातर्फे दिला जातो.
‘गर्द’ या पुस्तकातून अनिल अवचट यांनी ड्रग्जच्या विळख्यात अडकलेल्या तरुणांच्या व्यथा जगासमोर आणल्या. हे पुस्तक लिहितांना आलेले अनुभव आणि त्यानंतर पु.ल. देशपांडे यांनी दिलेले प्रोत्साहनामुळे आणि पत्नी डॉ.अनिता अवचट ह्यांच्या पुढाकाराने ‘मुक्तांगण’ हे व्यसनमुक्ती केंद्र चालू केले. व्यसनाधीन पुरुष, महिला, व्यसनाधीन पुरुषांच्या पत्नींसाठीचे कार्य तसेच विविध गट, कंपन्या, पोलीस दल यांचे जनजागरण यांसारखी अनेक कामे मुक्तांगणतर्फे गेल्या कित्येक वर्षांपासून केली जात आहेत.
अनिल अवचट यांच्या कार्याचा गौरव हा मुक्तांगण संस्थेचा, तसेच मुक्तांगणच्या संस्थापक डॉ.अनिता अवचट यांचाही गौरव आहे. या पुरस्काराबद्द्ल अनिल अवचट ह्यांचे हार्दिक अभिनंदन!

अनिल अवचट यांना साहित्य अकादमीचा बालसाहित्य पुरस्कार
सृष्टीत ..गोष्टीत
“बालसाहित्याच्या प्रांतामध्ये साने गुरुजींच्या कामाची दोरी घेऊन मी पुढे चाललो आहे. मी मोठा आहे की छोटा हे मला माहीत नाही; पण माझे पूर्वसूरी मोठी माणसे होती, याची मला नक्कीच जाणीव आहे. बालसाहित्यातून मुलांमध्ये चांगली मूल्ये रुजू शकतील,” अशी भावना ज्येष्ठ साहित्यिक आणि सामाजिक कार्यकर्ते डॉ. अनिल अवचट यांनी शनिवारी व्यक्त केली.डॉ. अवचट यांच्या “सृष्टीत गोष्टीत’ या पुस्तकाला साहित्य अकादमीतर्फे उत्कृष्ट बालसाहित्याचा पुरस्कार जाहीर झाला. मॅजेस्टिक प्रकाशनने प्रकाशित केलेल्या या पुस्तकाच्या तीन वर्षांत तीन आवृत्त्या प्रसिद्ध झाल्या आहेत.

A Poem that Anil Awachat wrote for his wife Sunanda
I recently read this poem (Thanks to Prasad) that Anil Awachat has written for his wife, Sunanda and was quite touched by it. Here it is –
मी घेऊ उखाणा ?
ती आज नसली तरीही ?
तशी ती आहेच ना समोर,
पानात पान पिंपळ पान मग शेवटी गोरी पान,
नको नको ती नव्हतीच गोरी,
पण अंतरंग वाह वाह !!!
त्या इतके सुंदर काहीच नसेल !
मग ती सुंदर ला जमणारी आधीची ओळ ?
नको मग तिच्यातली ती पाझरती माया ?
त्याला कुठून आणावा जुळणारा शब्द ?
काया ? छे छे ! ते कधीच नव्हते तिचे वैशिष्ट्य,
मग तिच्या आजारातही प्रसन्न असणे?
प्रसन्न ? त्याला जुळणारे खिन्न ?
छे ती कधीच कधीच नव्हती शेवट पर्यन्त !
तिचे असामान्य धैर्य ?
छे बुवा !!! त्याला ही काही जुळत नाही !
मग तिच्या डोळ्यातले वास्तल्य ?
तिचे मार्दव ?
तिचा हळुवार आश्वासक स्पर्श !

RRTC received National Award 2014 for outstanding work and contribution in the field of Prevention of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Muktangan Mitra, Pune, established on August 29, 1986 has been a pioneer organization in the field of "Drug Demand Reduction - treatment and rehabilitation of substance dependants and their families".Muktangan Mitra was designated as a Regional Resource & Training Center - west Zone 1 in 199 by the Ministry of Social Justice & empowerment for guiding and providing technical support to 93 Intergrated Rehabilitation Centers for Addicts in the States of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa and Union Territories of Dadra & Nagar haveli and Daman & Diu.
Muktangan Mitra has been organizing various training and capacity building programs for Service Providers and Work Place Prevention Programs at local and state levels. It has been working in close collaboration with State Police, Social Welfare Department, CRPF, Anti Narcotic Cell, Narcotic Control Bureau, Educational Institutes as well as Panchayati Raj Institutions for disseminating information on ill-effects of drug abuse and to combat the problem of drug abuse.
 Muktangan Mitra has been spreading the message of Drug Abuse Prevention through workshops, counseling, posters, booklets and lectures form last 14 years. with an average of over 20 workshops and 150 talks and lectures per year. The resource material, manuals, information, education and communication material developed by it on issues relating to drug abuse and HIV/ AIDS prevention in English/ Hindi and also in local Marathi language have facilitated the reach of messages across the Western Region of India on ill-effects of drug abuse. The award for best Regional Resource & Training Center is conferred on Muktangan Mitra, Pune in recognition of their outstanding work and contribution in the field of Prevention of Alcohol and Drug Addiction in the Western region. The National award was received by Ms. Mukta Puntambekar, Deputy Director of Muktangan Mitra a nd also the Chief Functionary of Regional Resource & Training Center - West Zone 1 and conferred upon by Hon'ble President of I ndia Shri Pranab Mukherjee on June 26, 2014 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
